In 1945 Celine Vipine created the designer brand name Celine. The famous elephant logo was not created until 1950.

Celine wanted to create a new concept that fashion should be practical and easy care. She thought that if a woman was to travel then she can take light weight things in one bag and still remain well dressed and well kept.

When everyone else was selling dresses Celine showed how versatile a skirt and blouse can be. Most couture designers tend to not be realistic about what a woman wants. Celine dealt with reality and was one of the first who really made an effort to listen to her women customers. Customers were so very happy that they started to write to her about particular items they wanted on her line. Those items started to become a bigger part of her line and with those items came Celine's success.

Celine traveled a lot and took note of the changes in the world around her. She felt that fashion had to change as the world did. She felt that fashion needed to change as womans needs changed. Celine's line was developed around her love for fabric. Fabric she thought must be attractive while it is still functional. The garments resulted from the texture of the fabric, the weight and finesse and each of the fabrics are made for a precise style. She makes it known that she likes to travel to the factory herself and inspect each and every fabric to insure its quality and style.

Celine wants the fabric at all cost to have a natural appearance. Once the fabric is decided upon then everything else is simple.

Celine takes the same love of fabric and design when she creates her handbags. Her handbags are all simple and durable with the fabric giving the bag its personality.

Celine realizes that a woman is dynamic, that she works, she travels and that her handbag must fit into this lifestyle. It should not be to extravagant or to eccentric as to take away from the natural personality of the woman.
