In 1913 Mario Prada founded a company known as Prada Brother and now today the company is known as Prada. Miuccia Prada, the grandaughter of Mario in 1978 inherited the business from her mother and that started the companies journey into couture with a Bohemian style



. A second line that Prada owns is the famous Miu Miu which is a line that is simple and has high end vintage items. That line was followed by a third line Prada Sport (Linea Rosa).

Some think that Miuccia Prada is one of the most trend setting clothing designers in the fashion world.

The trend has been for some time now for high end fashion companies to acquire other fashion companies that will generate them revenue. In the early 1990's took on a great amount of debt when it acquired Fendi the Rome based company that was in financial trouble at the time. After many attempts to turn around the Fendi label Prada sold its shares to LVMH (Louis Vuitton) and they are still trying to recoup loses from this debt.

In the late 80's Prada hit the runway with its Pret-a-porter collection which had simple and basic features with clean lines and luxurious fabric in basic colors. It was with this line that Pradas popularity skyrocketed. Now by the 90's Prada was known worldwide for its clothing, accessories, shoes, and of course its classic handbags.

n the 1990's there were many fashion companies that were acquired by Prada and none of these were successful and Prada was forced to sell there interest in these companies.

In 2007 a surprise joint venture when Prada and LG Electronics joined together to make a phone that sold for $800.00.

The House of Prada is most notable worldwide for its simple and elegant designs. When one hears the name Prada one thinks about only style and luxury designer handbags and stunning shoes.

Since 1970 one of Pradas most famous products is there black waterproof backpack that is made of a nylon fabric called Pocone. In 1985 this sleek black nylon handbag became an instant sensation because the bag was fashionable, functionable, sturdy and practical. The high price of this bag created an onslaught of designer knockoffs which only helped to make the Prada bag more desireable.

Muiccia was named one of the 30 most powerful women in Europe by the Wall Street Journal.

Prada is sold throughout the world and has many boutiques and mega stores such, New York, Beverly Hills, Tokyo and Milan to name a few.
